The Train

Continuing the summer theme of Groundbreaking Films, we’re viewing Orson Welles’ 1941 classic Citizen Kane in July. A group of reporters who are trying to decipher the last word ever spoke by Charles Foster Kane, the millionaire newspaper tycoon: "Rosebud." The film begins with a news reel detailing Kane's life for the masses, and then from there, we are shown flashbacks from Kane's life. As the reporters investigate further, the viewers see a display of a fascinating man's rise to fame, and how he eventually fell off the "top of the world." 199 min. Rated PG.

The last film to be featured in the Groundbreaking Films this summer is Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey. Released in 1968, the movie chronicles humanity finding a mysterious, obviously artificial, object buried beneath the Lunar surface and, with the intelligent computer H.A.L. 9000, sets off on a quest. 141 min. Rated. PG.
